A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM THE CEO KAREN ANDERSON:

A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM THE CEO KAREN ANDERSON:

Sustainability (of the planet), Safety (in the workplace), and Service (to others) have been the things that the Cincinnati Interagency Federal Credit Union (CIFCU) has tried to mirror from its members’ organizations – the employees of the U.S. Public Health Service, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health, all located in Cincinnati, OH.

For 75 years CIFCU has remained successful in providing financial services to its members. As time passes, however, things change and the Credit Union must adapt – while focusing on the fact that the mission is to always take the best care of our members’ money. Technological advances, accessibility to the offices, increased competition not only in reaching new members but in the marketplace overall, ever changing regulatory compliance issues, a dwindling volunteer base, and higher costs were all things considered when the Board of Directors discussed the future of the Credit Union at last summer’s Planning Session.

Over the past months, the Credit Union’s Board and Management concluded that continuing to operate under the current conditions would not allow the Credit Union to grow.  Moving the office or changing the charter to a community type were options that would not only be huge tasks but would also take away from the uniqueness of CIFCU.  Instead, it was decided that finding a Credit Union merger partner would be the best choice.

The following things were the top priorities in making a choice.

  • Credit Union based philosophy focusing on Member Service
  • Ability to provide more products and services than we can offer
  • Large enough to appreciate and welcome CIFCU’s beloved employees as their own
  • Participation in the Shared Branching Network
  • Multiple, conveniently located locations
  • Plans to keep up with technological advances and regulatory compliance
  • Understanding enough to provide extra member care during shutdowns
  • Supportive of community efforts like the FreeStore/FoodBank
  • Assisting the next generation with education through scholarship offerings
  • Willing to envelop CIFCU’s efforts regarding Sustainability and Worker Safety

The Board of Directors believe they found that merger partner with Kemba Credit Union (West Chester, OH) and ask for your support in approving the proposed merger.
